I had the privilege of knowing Ron for 20+ yrs. He helped me with tips on finishing my brothers SST car (69 dodge Dart Swinger) after my brother passed. As soon as we got it running; he would talk with me for hrs regarding how to stage and cut a good light. I would call him after my races/runs and tell him how I did, he would get so excited. We finnally got the car to where it would run in the very low10's, time for me to get my NHRA license. We talked the day before his accident about my car, his car and he calmed my nerves regarding my passes that I would have to make while other drivers watched and would sign off on, for me to obtain my License. Ron told me Jay (my brother) and Randy will be waching and with me.
Sad thing is that I called Ron to talk before I went to try to make my under 10 second runs and I was told that he was in an accident and that he was gone. How could this be possible when he told me the night before to call him before my run and I will be sure to run a 9 something. I lost it, I thought how am I gonna race and then I thought how can I not race. I went out and ran a 9.97 and by the end of the making my licensed passes I ended up runnung a 9.77 second run and now posses my NHRA License. Thanks Flash I know you were with me, I now carry a pic of you and my brother in the car ALWAYS..... and have your old 7738 # on my NHRA License.
Ron was the most special, sincere, funloving, honest, do anything for anyone - people I knew. We at Firebird Raceway will race in your honor...!!!
SEE YA AT THE TREE FLASH - the only tree at Firebird, the place we liked to pit near - the place where Ron, Randy, my Sister and I had so much fun - and too much Captain Morgan at!!! Love Terry
