New Randy and Ronny from way back at OCIR and Irwindale. Two great guys, two great racers. They always had a smile or a beer or both. God Speed, you both left, way to early.

I just found out about this yesterday. I used to work with Ronnie at Downey Service Center. My thoughts and prayers go out to the Marcum family. He was a great guy, and will truly be miised by all.

I had the privilege of knowing Ron for 20+ yrs. He helped me with tips on finishing my brothers SST car (69 dodge Dart Swinger) after my brother passed. As soon as we got it running; he would talk with me for hrs regarding how to stage and cut a good light. I would call him after my races/runs and tell him how I did, he would get so excited. We finnally got the car to where it would run in the very low10's, time for me to get my NHRA license. We talked the day before his accident about my car, his car and he calmed my nerves regarding my passes that I would have to make while other drivers watched and would sign off on, for me to obtain my License. Ron told me Jay (my brother) and Randy will be waching and with me. Sad thing is that I called Ron to talk before I went to try to make my under 10 second runs and I was told that he was in an accident and that he was gone. How could this be possible when he told me the night before to call him before my run and I will be sure to run a 9 something. I lost it, I thought how am I gonna race and then I thought how can I not race. I went out and ran a 9.97 and by the end of the making my licensed passes I ended up runnung a 9.77 second run and now posses my NHRA License. Thanks Flash I know you were with me, I now carry a pic of you and my brother in the car ALWAYS..... and have your old 7738 # on my NHRA License. Ron was the most special, sincere, funloving, honest, do anything for anyone - people I knew. We at Firebird Raceway will race in your honor...!!! SEE YA AT THE TREE FLASH - the only tree at Firebird, the place we liked to pit near - the place where Ron, Randy, my Sister and I had so much fun - and too much Captain Morgan at!!! Love Terry

It's difficult knowing Randy and Ronnie are no longer with us. To me the name Marcum was synonymous to bracket racing every week at OCIR during the 70s. When I wasn't helping dad on his car I was up Fraelich's & Randy Fabbro's butts...and remember the hilarious fun everyone had with the Marcum clan. I last saw Ronnie was at Downey Service Center before I moved back to Florida. Although both he & the store are gone I will forever remember Ronnie that way. I hope there's drag racing in heaven and that Ronnie, Randy, and my late father (Jim Smith) are all dialed in and ready to go.

As I wrote earlier in this guest book, I was shocked and sadded to hear of Ronnie's passing. Since then have been trying to reach Randy. Randy and I worked together at Triangle Distributing for several years. I had attended many races with the Marcums, and Del Cox from Palmdale, Pomona, Sacramento, Somoma, to Kent, WA. I had the pleasure of meeting Gene Marcum on a few occasions. It was Ronnie who lead me to my first (and only to date) S/G race car. When I fell onto economic trouble he was instrumental in helping get out of it, and I even made a few bucks. The last time I have seen them was at the 2004 Winternationals. Today my heart is truly sad to just now hear Randy is also gone. I can only take comfort in knowing that with Gene, Del, Randy, and Ronnie no longer with us, S/G- S/C drag racing is alive and well in heaven!!!

Will miss having a Coors Light and talking about Fabbro And MR. Ed. Just won't be the same without a PAK RAT car at the races. Thanks for letting me be your friend Ronnie.

My first memories of Ronnie and Randy were at the old Irwindale back in the 70's when they were just kids, hanging out every weekend with their Uncle Charlie and his 'Lil Thumper' Anglia. The Marcums were a class act all the way and So Cal drag racing will never be the same without them. I'm just glad to have known them!
